Artificial Intelligence Policies
The Journal of Quantum Artificial Intelligence (JQAI) acknowledges the transformative role of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) tools, including ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Copilot, and other large language models (LLMs), in scientific research and scholarly publishing. As a journal dedicated to research at the intersection of quantum computing and artificial intelligence, JQAI recognizes that AI-assisted technologies can enhance research productivity, software development, data analysis, and scientific communication. However, their use must comply with the highest standards of research integrity, transparency, and accountability. JQAI follows the recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) regarding AI tools and authorship to ensure the responsible and ethical use of artificial intelligence in academic publishing.
1. Use of GenAI in Manuscript Preparation
Authors may use GenAI tools to support manuscript preparation, including language editing, code assistance, literature exploration, data analysis, visualization, or other research-related activities. When GenAI tools contribute beyond routine language editing, authors must clearly disclose their use within the manuscript.
Methods Section: Authors should describe how the GenAI tool contributed to the research process, including its role in data analysis, algorithm development, code generation, experimental design, simulation, or other scientific activities where applicable.
Acknowledgments Section: Authors should specify the name, version, and purpose of the GenAI tool used during manuscript preparation.
Note: The use of GenAI exclusively for language editing, grammar correction, spelling improvement, or formatting assistance does not require disclosure.
2. Authorship and Accountability
Generative AI tools cannot be listed as authors because they cannot satisfy internationally accepted authorship criteria, including accountability, responsibility, and the ability to approve the final manuscript. All content generated with the assistance of AI must be carefully reviewed, validated, and verified by the human authors, who remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, scientific validity, and integrity of the submitted work.
3. Use of GenAI in Peer Review
Reviewers are expected to preserve the confidentiality of submitted manuscripts throughout the peer-review process. Manuscripts under review must not be uploaded to public or commercial AI systems that may retain or reuse submitted content. Reviewers should prepare their evaluations independently. If AI tools are used solely to improve the language of the review report, such use should be disclosed to the editorial office.
4. Editorial Use of GenAI
Editors and members of the Editorial Board must not use GenAI tools to make editorial decisions or upload confidential manuscript content to external AI services. Editorial decisions must be based exclusively on scientific merit, reviewer recommendations, ethical considerations, and the journal's editorial policies.
5. Ethical Considerations
The use of GenAI must comply with all journal policies concerning research integrity, originality, plagiarism, data reliability, image manipulation, citation accuracy, copyright, and proper attribution. Authors are responsible for verifying that AI-generated content is factually correct, appropriately referenced, free from fabrication or hallucination, and consistent with accepted academic standards. The use of AI must never compromise the transparency, reproducibility, or ethical conduct of scientific research.
Recommended Disclosure Statement
"During the preparation of this manuscript, the author(s) used [tool name, version] to assist with [e.g., language editing, code generation, data analysis, figure preparation, or literature summarization]. The authors reviewed, verified, and edited all AI-generated content and accept full responsibility for the accuracy, integrity, and originality of the published work."
This policy will be periodically reviewed and updated to reflect developments in scholarly publishing, artificial intelligence technologies, and publication ethics. Authors with questions regarding the acceptable use of AI tools are encouraged to contact the Editorial Office before submitting their manuscripts.
